Combat Paper

So, Texas State was lucky enough to host the Combat Paper Project a week or so ago. They are an amazing group of artists from the Northeast that travels the country working with veterans to turn their uniforms into art. Here is a snippet from their website:

"Through papermaking workshops veterans use their uniforms worn in combat to create cathartic works of art. The uniforms are cut up, beaten into a pulp and formed into sheets of paper. Veterans use the transformative process of papermaking to reclaim their uniform as art and begin to embrace their experiences in the military."

Do yourselves a huge favor, and check out their website: combatpaper.org

They told us that their time at Texas State was one of their busiest on campus experiences, with over 30 student vets coming to work on projects. Malachi was the genius behind bringing them to campus, so a huge shout out to him for taking the initiative to bring them here. Thank you so much Malachi!

Introductions

Well HELLO! This blog is an attempt for some not-so-tech-savy grad students to reach people on an off campus, so everyone can sort of be a part of what we're doing here on campus - and that is, to help support our student veterans and their families.

Dr. Katherine Selber, social work professor and veteran advocate extrordinaire, has aquired four graduate student interns this semester to aid her in her efforts to make Texas State University the most veteran friendly university in the world. We are well on our way, and we want everyone to know it, and to spread the word about our amazing support services and groups here on campus.

I will let everyone write their own entries introducing themselves, but for now, we just want to say hello, and to stay posted. There is definitely a lot to come.
